Housing is the first defence against the spread of COVID-19. The pandemic has seen many Ontarians unable to work and pay rent, leaving thousands of people facing eviction.
With a severe shortage of affordable rental housing, an eviction may push these individuals into already crowded emergency shelters, informal and unsafe residences, or living in encampments during the cold winter months – creating situations with a high risk of COVID-19 outbreaks that could overwhelm our health care system.
We’re partnering with organizations across the province on a campaign urging the Ontario government to immediately stop unsafe evictions by restoring the temporary ban on residential evictions that was put in place at the beginning of the pandemic.
