Ottawa Giving Project

The Ottawa Giving Project is a collaborative effort to make donating personal items easy to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Due to COVID, community agencies have less space and fewer volunteers to sort through donations. 

This is a short-term partnership between RESPOND Ottawa, agencies across the city, and the Alliance to End Homelessness Ottawa.

RESPOND Ottawa is a team of volunteers from 42 churches dedicated to serving the community during times of crisis. They’re providing the person-power to sort, clean, coordinate, and deliver items agencies need to support people living on a low-income or experiencing homelessness.

The idea to coordinate matching agencies to donors is inspired by Avery Parkinson, a high school student who saw how much harder it is to give during the pandemic and proposed this idea.

If you are an agency in need of donations, fill out our survey to tell us what you need. 


What we do

We open up temporary collection centres where the public can drop off specific donations. Following Ottawa Public Health Guidelines volunteers sort, clean, and deliver donated items to agencies.

  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Razors
  • Shampoo
  • Hairbrushes
  • Diapers
  • New socks and underwear in adult, youth, and child sizes.
